Information from Town Departments:
"As you can see, our shift average is steadily going down... last year was 8.57 firefighters per shift, this year was 8.27... last staff increase was in 2016...when we run short officers on scene of a fire have to decide between putting out the fire or performing a search and rescue, it is an awful decision to have to make" -Chief Grafton January 7, 2025 Select Board Meeting at 2:20:29 (Link here: Presentation Starts at 2:09:20)
Five out of Eight service equipment / vehicles are out of service- all of which are more than 10 years old. "Best practice guide from American Public Works association recommends using equipment for no more than 10 years as costs to repair skyrocket- all of our are outside of that 10 years and should be replaced." Director Brett Gonsalvez January 7, 2025 Select Board Meeting at 2:58:50 (Link here: Presentation Starts at 2:46:00)
We are severely understaffed, budgeted for 27 employees, only 22 to manage 63 miles of paved roads. Other comparable towns have 68 or 70. -Director Brett Gonsalvez January 7, 2025 Select Board Meeting at 03:00:50 (Link here: Presentation Starts at 2:46:00)
